Over at the Bing adCenter Blog, part of the Bing search engine, Jennifer Jones has some great advice about how to create and optimize your landing page. After all, your landing page is what a customer first sees. Whether it’s your landing page for your adCenter or Adwords PPC campaign, your web page optimized for a certain keyword or the page linked from your Social Media (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter) page, you’re going to want to put your best foot forward.
So What Are the Tips?
“Basics of Landing Pages:
- Be specific, be clear
- Clean and concise – bullets, small paragraphs
- Call to action – things that excite
- Branded, Certified, Trusted – positive words, feel comfortable and safe”
All of these things are FANTASTIC advice, and something we’ve been preaching at the WSI ePro Marketing (Your Thousand Oaks Internet Marketing Company) for a long while. Look, we keep saying it and it’s great advice. Your landing page should be something specific! You don’t want to direct people looking for a specific good or service to a generic homepage. You want a customer to instantly know they came to the right place. And then you want to make sure they see a BIG, CLEAR call to action.
Whether you’re online or offline, this is just good marketing. Don’t believe us? Believe the folks at Microsoft Bing.

You Advertise. But Where Do You Send Customers?
Every business owner knows you have to advertise. So when you advertise, do you direct people to the homepage of your website? And we don’t just mean internet marketing. We’re talking about all kinds of advertising here, including online and traditional.
Flyers you pass out in your local area. Online advertising, including pay-per-click (PPC). Local newspaper ads and yellow book ads. So if you send customers to the home page of your site, they may not be taking the action you want them to take. What is your goal? I mean, your home page most likely gives a big picture, broad overview of your company and your services. However, your pay per click ad, or the flyer you distribute, or your ad in the local paper is probably a lot more specific: “15% Discount this Week Only!”
